Compounding for Nausea & Vomiting
What is the Difference Between Nausea & Vomiting?
Nausea is an uneasiness of the stomach that often accompanies the urge to vomit, but doesn't always lead to vomiting. Vomiting is the forcible emptying of stomach contents through the mouth.  Nausea and vomiting are not diseases, but rather are symptoms of many different conditions.

Why are Children Likely to Experience Nausea & Vomiting?
Nausea and vomiting can occur in both children and adults.  Kids can become nauseous due to motion sickness, emotional distress, viral infections, headaches, and certain odors.  Vomiting can occur due to food poisoning, overeating, viral infection, and a high fever.

Compounding Medications for Nausea & Vomiting
Your child’s medical provider may determine that it is in your child’s best interest to treat his/her nausea & vomiting, and prescribe a medication.  However, your child may not be able to take an oral medication while they are nauseous or vomiting.

Our pharmacists have the ability to compound several different types of medications into unique delivery forms that may improve compliance.  Topical gels/creams can simply be rubbed into your child’s skin making administration of the medication much more pleasant.  Suppositories can be compounded for those patients who require an alternative dosing form.  We also have the ability to combine certain medications into one delivery form, potentially increasing the overall effectiveness of the compounded medication.
